Can you measure student engagement?

How does a school measure student engagement and know the extent to which a student is engaged in the experience of school?

As a high school teacher, frustrated with the number of students enduring dehumanizing and miserable school experiences and leaving school without a high school diploma, I developed the Scale of Student Engagement/Disengagement (SOS ED) as part of my doctoral program to change the student engagement narrative and empower teachers to empower students.

The SOS ED provides a profile for each student to include:

-An engagement score with strengths, challenges, and areas of need (i.e. school relationships, academic habits, future goals, etc.)

-Agentic Engagement Score-the student’s ability to influence his/her own learning experiences

-At-Risk Indicator determines a student's risk of leaving school prematurely or not being able to participate fully.

I would love to chat about your students' engagement needs and how the SOS ED can benefit your students and teachers.

For additional information visit www.studentengagement.net or you can reach me at lfrickey@studentengagement.net to discuss your school’s needs.

I look forward to meeting you.
